Electrical Energy Cooperative

The Glastonbury Chamber of Commerce in partnership with CQI Associates of Maryland offers an electrical energy cooperative for Chamber members.

All commercial/industrial accounts (not residential) currently with CL&P or UI are eligible to participate.  Cooperative members purchase together from the supplier for their electrical usage, delivery charges will remain with the current provider. If you spend at least $3,000/year on electrical energy you may save money by joining the co-op.

In recommending CQI to the Board, the task force considered member comments, the fact that electricity costs in the Northeast are the second highest in the U.S. and an analysis of some electric bills. The savings will be significant," stated Jay Fromer, Chair of the Chambers Energy Task Force.

“CQI Associates has conducted over 150 energy procurement bids since September 1999. Bids have been conducted in 16 states.

The cooperatives are made up of small, large and mid-sized businesses, churches and synagogues, private schools, other nonprofit organizations, and local, city and county governments.

The resulting savings to members, as measured by remaining on the Default Service, is on average:

Small Accounts (the majority of participants in a Chamber cooperative fall into this category): 6% to 8% in year one of a 36-month contract
Mid-Sized Accounts: 14% to 16% in year one of a 36-month contract
Large Accounts: In excess of 20% in year one of a 36-month contract

Recent experience of the members is that their savings in years two and three have doubled each year as the Default Rates have increased.”

CQI Associates specializes in chamber programs, currently actively working with 43 chambers. Glastonbury Chamber is the first in Connecticut. CQI has a satellite office in Wethersfield and is well equipped to provide service to local cooperative members.

“If you are interested in saving money and want to budget your electric bill, you should make time to learn about this co-op,” said Mary Ellen Dombrowski, Chamber President, “this is a bottom line proposition.”
