The Glastonbury Chamber's largest event, the 34th Annual Apple Harvest Festival, will take place on October 18 & 19, 2008! Background: The Glastonbury Chamber of Commerce's biggest event of the year is the Annual Apple Harvest Festival. For the past 33 years, this two-day Festival has grown in scope and size moving it from downtown, to Hubbard Green to its current location at the Welles Street Riverfront Park. The Festival runs from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday, and draws nearly 30,000 people to Glastonbury each fall. The Apple Harvest Festival includes carnival rides, over one hundred crafters and exhibitors, over twenty-five food vendors, a 5K Run/Walk Road Race, a Kids Fun Run, a Bike Parade, a family entertainment area, live musical entertainment, and of course, a pie baking and pie eating contest! The Glastonbury Chamber, a non-profit organization independent of the Town of Glastonbury, is responsible for raising the funds necessary to produce the Festival each year and coordinates the entire event with the help of a planning committee, approximately 200 volunteers, and many generous corporate sponsors. This annual tradition has been the largest event in town for more than 30 years, drawing families, businesses and state and community leaders from across Connecticut and the northeast. Date & Time: October 18 & 19, 2008, 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. A highlight of the festival is the Craft Fair, which features more than 120 talented artists, jewelers and craftsmen. Merchandise includes handcrafted jewelry, children's toys, quilts, stained glass, candles and soaps, wreaths, sweaters, glassware, original art work and much more. A wide array of artisans are chosen to offer festival-goers the broadest selection possible. Over 30 food vendors will be on site to satisfy cravings for fun festival foods such as kettle corn, fried dough, hamburgers and hot dogs, pizza, gyros, calzones, grinders, soup, steak sandwiches, smoothies, and more. The festivities at the Family Entertainment Area features games and activities throughout both days to keep the younger festival goers and their families busy. The Apple Harvest Festival 5K Run/Walk Road Race and Kid's Fun Run will be held on Sunday, October 19 and will begin at the Hubbard Green in Glastonbury. There will be a Bike Parade for those wishing to ride to the Festival on their bike with family and friends. Free parking for the Apple Harvest Festival is available at 180 & 200 Glastonbury Boulevard (adjacent to Somerset Square). Shuttle buses will transport people to and from the festival grounds approximately every 10 minutes.
